The 2014 Lancet series on increasing value and reducing research waste seems to have led to some initiatives, however still a lot remains to be done. This review on research waste in biomedical research describes this situation and underlines the importance of further action. Part of this action is the Research Waste/EQUATOR conference that was held in September 2015 and the Reduce research Waste and Reward Diligence (REWARD) campaign.
