In 2017 UNESCO has updated their Recommendation on Science and Scientific Researchers from 1974.
It “is an important standard-setting instrument which not only codifies the goals and value systems by which science operates, but also emphasizes that these need to be supported and protected if science is to flourish. (…) It supersedes the Recommendation on the Status of Scientific Researchers of 20 November 1974 by the General Conference of UNESCO”
